Toyota Motor said it expects its China sales growth to slow next year, after strong gains in 2009 fueled by government incentives aimed at boosting the national auto sector during the global downturn.
Toyota’s China sales should rise about 17 percent to 700,000 vehicles this year from 600,000 in 2008, Masahiro Kato, president of the company’s China operations, said at the Guangzhou Autoshow.

Ford Motor Co will launch a new car model in India every 12-15 months over the next five years, with its new Figo small car is set to drive a tripling of sales in 2010, its India head said on Tuesday.
The No 2 US automaker by sales plans to use India as a global manufacturing hub for compact cars, eyeing the country’s low-cost facilities to grow in a segment that it expects will make up 60 percent of all global car sales in 10 years.

Daimler AG is considering launching a series of small Mercedes-Benz cars in the U.S. in a bid to tap Americans’ growing interest in downsized models that offer upscale features and finishes, the German car maker’s chief executive said.

Ford Motor Co.’s top sales analyst said that he expects sales of cars and car-based vehicles, such as crossovers, to continue increasing as consumers from baby boomers to young new buyers seek more efficient transportation options.

The prototypes of the first ever made-for-India car from Italian auto giant Fiat SpA will arrive in India in a year’s time for extensive road trials. The results and feedback from the trials will lead to the final round of tweaking before Fiat India Automobiles Ltd begins manufacturing the small car at its Ranjangaon facility.

Hyundai Motor India has said that it will continue to be aggressive with its product launches to protect and grow its market share, in the face of increasing launches in the compact car space in the country.

Maruti Suzuki India surged 5.45% to Rs 1560.40 on BSE, extending gains for the second consecutive day, on reports demand for passenger cars remains upbeat in the domestic market.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was provisionally up 183.68 points, or 1.09%, to 17,032.51.
