2010 Nissan VersaNissan arguably could have justified a price hike on its affordable 2010 Versa, as Americans warm up to small cars and embrace what many are calling an age of abstinence. But on Wednesday, Nissan said prices for the 2010 Versa sedan remain unchanged from the 2009 model year, while the 2010 Versa hatchback gets a slight price increase.

The 2010 Nissan Versa 1.6 base model with a five-speed manual transmission starts at $10,710, including a $720 destination charge. The top-of-the-line 2010 Nissan Versa 1.8 SL with a four-speed automatic transmission starts at $16,820, including shipping.

The base 2010 Nissan Versa 1.8 S hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission starts at $13,870, including shipping — a $40 price increase over the 2009 model. The top-of-the-line 2010 Nissan Versa 1.8 SL with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) starts at $17,250, a $200 price increase over the 2009 model.

Versa 1.8 SL models also get an optional $620 navigation/satellite package for 2010 that will be available in January, Nissan noted. The package bundles a 5-inch color monitor, XM Satellite radio and MX NavTraffic.

The Versa 1.8 sedan and hatchback models get an upgraded front grille, new cabin fabric patterns and reddish-orange interior illumination for the new model year.

The 2010 Versa is on sale now.
