Hyundai is one of the biggest automakers in the whole of Asia. Now we have word that the Seoul based manufacturer has launched the Hyundai Tucson ix in Korea. The compact sports utility vehicle boasts of sweeping coupe-styled lines, the feel of a premium vehicle and features over its predecessor.
Hyundai aims at recapturing the sales leadership in the small SUV market in Korea, and has started sales of the Tucson ix. The car has stylings based on the ix-onic concept displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Everything from the fuel-efficiency to power output, from safety features to comfort has been upgraded. Developed under the project name LM, it took 280 billion won and about 36 months for the dream to be realised.
The Hyundai Tucson ix comes with either the all-new diesel R or the gasoline Theta-II, 2.0 litre engine, and Hyundai’s new six speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine model complies with Euro-5 emissions and gives 15.4 kilometers per litre, delivering a maximum power output of 184 horsepower. The gasoline engine gives 11.7 kilometers to the litre and 166 horsepower. The diesel engine option can be purchased with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive configurations, but the gasoline engine is only available in a front-wheel-drive configuration.
The Tucson features Vehicle Dynamic Control, Downhill Brake Control and Hill-Start Assist Control, Emergency Stop Signal, Panoramic Sunroof and Safety Rear-View Mirror. Hyundai has sold more than a million Tucson units worldwide since its 2004 launch.
The 2 wheel drive diesel edition starts at 21 million won (approx. RS. 8,21,300), and the top-of-the-line model will be priced at 27 million won (approx. Rs. 10,55,960) including taxes. The gasoline model starts at 19 million won (approx. Rs. 7,43,075) and tops out at 24 million won (approx. Rs. 9,38,625).
