Toyota gears up to roll out two compact cars in Indian market

After serving the above Rs 7 lakh bracket with its vehicles in the country, Japanese car maker Toyota Motor Corporation is all set to expand its reach in the Indian sub-continent with its compact car platform variants including a hatchback and a sedan. Toyota sees China 2010 sales growth slowing

Toyota Motor said it expects its China sales growth to slow next year, after strong gains in 2009 fueled by government incentives aimed at boosting the national auto sector during the global downturn.

Toyota’s China sales should rise about 17 percent to 700,000 vehicles this year from 600,000 in 2008, Masahiro Kato, president of the company’s China operations, said at the Guangzhou Autoshow.

Get set for Prius, Swift hybrid

World’s largest carmaker Toyota on Wednesday said it will launch its hybrid car Prius in India early next year and roll in a 10% more fuel-efficient small car in early 2011, as Japanese carmakers revealed big India plans at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Nissan said it will roll out its new global V platform small car from its Chennai plant from mid next year, while Suzuki unveiled a Swift with a Plug-In hybrid and a Suzuki SX4-FCW hydrogen drive under the slogan, ‘Small cars for a big future’.

Toyota’s hybrid car ‘Prius’ to be launched in India

The world’s largest car maker, Toyota, today said it will launch its hybrid car ‘Prius’ in India early next year.

“We will be introducing our hybrid car in India sometime in the beginning of next year and it will be Prius,” Toyota Motor Corporation Vice-Chairman Kazuo Okamoto told a group of visiting Indian journalists here.

Toyota Sept China car sales rise 45 percent

Toyota Motor Corp said its car sales in China in September rose 45 percent from a year earlier to a record monthly high of about 72,000 vehicles as stimulus policies bolstered consumer confidence.

In the first nine months of the year, the top Japanese automaker sold about 486,000 cars in China, up 13 percent from a year earlier, a company spokesman said.

Toyota Prius Increases Toyota Sales

The 2010 Toyota Prius was one of the top-selling cars during the government’s Cash For Clunkers program. The program allowed consumers to trade in their old clunker for up to $4,500 towards a price of a new fuel-efficient car. Toyota Prius is a third-generation full hybrid car that offers a 50 MPG combined rating.

Toyota Prius salesToyota global sales were up nearly 5 percent from a year earlier during the worst economic recession in decades. Domestic sales went up to nearly 10 percent. Toyota faced a 20 percent drop in July. Toyota also announced that it will hire about 800 additional employees and will increase global production by 8 percent.
