Electric sparks flying at Nissan
The boss of Nissan’s Sunderland plant said he was confident it had done all it could to attract electric vehicle manufacturing to the region - but said it was still in a race with two other European countries to land the work.
Trevor Mann, Nissan’s senior vice president for manufacturing in Europe, was speaking at One North East’s annual review meeting in Durham’s Radisson Blu Hotel.

Electric cars take on hybrids at Tokyo show
Futuristic concept cars, plug-in hybrids, zero-emission electric vehicles and even a hydrogen-powered scooter jostled for the limelight as the Tokyo Motor Show kicked off on Wednesday.
From a super-skinny Nissan electric car that leans when going around bends, to a lightweight Toyota sports car and a Daihatsu vehicle with a design based on a basket, Japanese makers showed off their visions of the future.

US carmaker General Motors (GM) has said it is to develop a small cheap electric car for India.
The carmaker will develop the model in partnership with India’s Reva Electric Car Company, and said it expected production to begin next year.

Electric MINI for just £330 per month
MINI is bringing a limited number of its electric MINI E to the UK and is offering everyone the chance to partake in the research project, with the monthly lease costing £330.
Just 20 examples of the 201bhp electric MINI will be available for lease, for a period of six months from this December, with a further 20 in a second round of applications later in 2010.
