Car makers in the country, led by Maruti Suzuki Hyundai and Tata Motors, today reported healthy jump in October sales, cashing in on robust purchases during the festive season.
Two-wheeler makers, except for market leader Hero Honda, also reported good sales growth during the month.
While the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India saw its domestic sales rise by 21.01 per cent, rival Hyundai Motor’s sales soared by 41.44 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki sold 71,551 units last month in the domestic market, against 59,127 units in the same month in 2008.Hyundai Motor’s sales stood at 28,301 units during the month against 20,009 units in October 2008.
Homegrown auto firm Mahindra & Mahindra reported 32.11 per cent jump in domestic sales of its utility vehicles last month at 18,410 units form 13,935 units during the same month last year.
Tata Motors’ passenger car sales in October rose by 17.61 per cent in the domestic market to 20,011 units against 17,014 units in the same month last year.
Carmaker General Motors India reported 14.66 per cent increase in sales in October to 7,413 units from of 6,465 units in the same month in 2008.
Ford India reported a 98.28 per cent jump in its sales for October at 3,458 units from 1,744 units.
